Letters to the Veteran's Committee of the Baseball Hall of Fame have been sent. We wait patiently to hear whether or not they decide to put "Babe" Adams on the ballot for 2015! Stay tuned! C'mon Cooperstown, let's give a legend his due accolades!
Here are some of the stats we used to try to convince the HOF of "Babe's" worthiness... · 1909, his rookie year, ERA of 1.11 (still a major league record, for 115 years) · Most Valuable Player in the 1909 World Series, pitching 3 complete games, (games 1, 5, 7) with game 7 being a shutout · 1914 pitched a complete 21 inning game with no walks · Overall ERA: 2.76 (makes him 45th in ERA of all time) · 194 wins / 140 losses · WHIP 1.08 with 44 shut-outs · 2.41 K/BB · 1.29 walks per 9 inning (ranks 2nd of all time) · Of all 63 Hall of Fame pitchers, only 16 have lower ERAs · Fewest walks by a pitcher with 250+ innings (18 in 1920) Charles “Babe” Adams has the second lowest walk ratio of all pitchers over the last 100 years. Greg Maddox, who is known as the preeminent control pitcher in recent years would have had to pitch 217 consecutive, 9 inning games without a walk to equal Babe’s mark.
